My “Love Tech Stuff” Rating
I rate myself a three on a scale of one to ten. I chose a three because although, I love technology, I absolutely hate trying to learn how to use it. I fall behind trying to learn it. For example, this class, I have never had to use this site before and I had to make several phone calls to the professor in order to resolve the problem/ issues getting a blog set up in order to complete assignments.
Internet Typology Quiz
Based on the results of the quiz, the site indicated that I am a Digital Collaborator. This means that I love connecting with others using new technologies. Also, that once I have become familiar with a new technology that I am confident in using it.
Change Model
I fall into the Late Majority category of the change model. This is because I rarley, actually never use new products until the vast majority have already started using it. For example, Myspace.com, I just recently opened my account and the only reason for it was because all of my closest friends were. In fact, it was these friends that had to show me the ropes of the site and how to create it. This goes for my facebook account as well. I still have trouble using it. A co-worker set up my facebook account and I still only access it, at the most, once every couple months because I am not familiar with it yet.
Example of a Tech I love
An example of a tech I love would have to be my new cell phone. This one takes pictures, has internet access and stores tons of downloaded pictures, songs, jokes and information. Most of my family says that I am a phone addict because I am always on it texting and downloading songs and videos.
My _____ is a Tech-addict
My best friend John is a tech-addict and drives me crazy because he can figure out any new technology whether it be concerning computer software, phones, ipods, etc. He rates a ten on a scale of one to ten from the “Love Tech Stuff” Rating listed above. I rate him a ten because he is technology literate, hes not afraid to dive into something new, and retains a great deal of knowledge. I call John to help with any problems I run into with my computer, its programs, downloading songs to my MP3 Player, etc. It drives me absolutley nuts to have to depend on someone to solve my problems concerning new technologies. I would like to become more technology literate myself.
“Shift Happens- Did You Know?” Video
In watching the video, I found much of it compelling such as the fact that:
- the top ten jobs in demand in 2010 didn’t exist in 2004
- it is predicted that e-paper will be cheaper than real paper
- by 2013, a supercomputer will be built that will exceed the computation capability of the human brain and that by 2049, only a computer costing $1000.00 will exceed the computational capabilities of the human race.
Try Something New
For this assignment, I borrowed my co-worker, Oscar’s GPS System. It was very simple to use; I typed in where I was at, the address and then the address of where I was heading to. The system tracked my every move and told me where to go at every exit on the interstate. I found it very useful and easy to use. If I ever get the money, I would definitely buy one of these. To be honest, I would have never used one of these if it were not for this assignment and I’m glad I did actually try it. He was always trying to get me to check it out at work, I just never would. I’ve never found that stuff appealing.
